Absorbing Odors with Coffee Beans

Masking odors with heavy sprays might not be the best choice for your health. Coffee Beans can act like a filter and absorb fouls scents in your home, car, and closets.

When you think of coffee you think of that hot drink that helps you function in the morning. But did you know that coffee can help remove unwanted odors? Ever walk into a department store and notice small jars of coffee beans by the perfume? Coffee beans are used to help clear your sense of smell and let you take in one perfume aroma at a time.

Coffee Beans in your Home

Did you know that reheating a cup of coffee in your microwave can help remove burnt/food odors from your microwave. Try it the next time you burn a bag of popcorn. Just pop in a mug with 2 tablespoons of grounded coffee and 1/2 cup of water. Heat for 2 minutes. Allow it to sit in your microwave for an hour.

Coffee Beans in your Car

Find a tin with a lid. Next punch 5 to 6 holes in the lid. Put a handful of coffee beans inside the tin and place it in your car. You can also try coffee beans in a small breathable sack. You just might have a small favor bag leftover from a wedding you've attended. Put a handful of coffee beans in the favor sack and place the coffee beans under the seat in your car.

Coffee Beans in your Closets

When your closet is full of shoes it can often be a smelly place. Place an open bag of coffee beans somewhere on a shelf in your closet. Just be careful where you place it, you do not want to spill them.

The coffee beans should be enough to filter the bad shoe odors, but not enough to have all of your clothes smelling like coffee.

How to make to a Coffee Bean Centerpiece for your home

What you need to make a coffee themed centerpiece for your home:

-Whole Coffee Beans

-Any jar, bowl, or dish

-Candle to place in the middle

Place a layer of coffee beans on the bottom of the dish. This level will adjust depending on the height of your candle. You will want your candle to be slightly higher than your coffee beans.

Then place your candle. I like the smell of a vanilla candle and coffee, but you can be more creative than that and maybe use hazelnut candle. I haven't experimented with a bare candle and coffee beans. I would recommend finding a candle that is in a jar. I used a "votive" candle.

Next surround the candle with coffee beans. You do not want your candle flame to directly hit your coffee beans, just warm them. The only thing left to do is light your candle and enjoy!
